The one-year Comparative Law School run in English is a unique didactic offer at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. The school aims to attract both Polish students of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University and foreign students coming here as part of their student exchange programme (especially Erasmus + students). The course was launched in the 2003/2004 academic year and is still extremely popular among students. Classes run at the school are conducted by the Faculty’s employees as well as foreign guests, i.e. visiting lecturers. Since 2005, the Faculty has been cooperating with the Centre for International Legal Studies in Salzburg, which organises visits by experienced teachers from the United States and Canada each year. During each semester, at least one module at the School is conducted by a guest from abroad.
This one-year School held in English is an exceptional offer of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The School is arranged for both Polish and foreign students who study at the Faculty of Law and Administration in Toruń (especially those of the Erasmus status). The programme started in 2003/2004 and is very popular among Faculty students. In this initiative both the workers of the faculty and foreign visiting professors are engaged. Since 2005 we started co-operation with the Centre for International Legal Studies in Salzburg (CILS, Austria) which organizes for us very competent visiting senior lecturers from the USA and Canada. In this way in every semester we have at the faculty at least one such an eminent guest who works with our colleagues and students.
The whole programme of the School is addressed both to Polish and foreign students. The only differences are connected with the requirements of receiving the formal final certification. All details in this regard are regulated separately and basically they concern Polish students.
The latter means that in the case of e.g. Erasmus+ students they are free in their choice of courses offered, however only as far as their home coordinator agrees to accept this in their LA. As the numbers of School participants arise visibly form year to year it was necessary to introduce the so-called limits of students in particular courses. However, this kind of limitation does not concern Erasmus+ students, thus there is no risk that the planned programme will not be realized by them. There is even a unique possibility of having individual lectures/workshops/consultations if it is necessary for a future professional specialization of a particular Erasmus+ student.
